Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a day to recognize and celebrate the history of Indigenous people in Canada.

Take time today to learn what you don't know about Indigenous history and Indigenous experiences, to connect with Indigenous communities and members, to recognize the contributions of First Nations, Metis and Inuit people and traditions in Canada, and determine how you can amplify Indigenous voices in your own communities!

Mental health is important and we are thankful for

Mental health is important and we are thankful for the provincial government's acknowledgment and the implementation of a plan to support our youth.

In response to the GOA's release on May 31st, we have questions!
We call on our MLA's to speak up on behalf of our vulnerable and to ensure that children with disabilities are not only included in this action plan, but explicitly state that this was the intention by publicity further defining VULNERABLE YOUTH referred to in this plan.

Let's make sure our youth with disabilities do not fall through the cracks!

🎉Yesterday we gathered with team and community members to celebrate the Gateway Calgary's 2nd anniversary!🎉

We opened our doors in the middle of a pandemic, with many challenges and uncertainties present! Despite it all, the employment program, and now GEDI-Hub as well, has surpassed our initial expectations thanks to amazing team members working tirelessly, engaged and motivated participants who have adapted right along with us and an incredible community's worth of support!

THANK YOU- we are beyond grateful and look forward to continued growth and opportunities to support Calgary communities!

Meet Mitchell 👋

Mitchell reached out to Gateway at the beginning of the year 2022 when Mitchell wanted to get help him with finding a job.
He started working with a Career and Inclusion Consultant to revise his resume, practice for interviews and eventually started searching for work.
Soon after, Mitchell landed a job interview at the El Gaucho and following, was hired!

Mitchell was supported by Gateway with starting his new job as well as supporting the employer if any issues have come up! And Gateway continues to provide Mitchell with ongoing support

When asked, “Do you like your job?” Mitchell said “I love my job at El Gaucho!”🎉

Did you know that May is Care Giver Awareness Month? 🤔

#SupportWorkers ARE #caregivers and we care about YOU! Workers paid to support people with #disabilities have not seen a wage increase since 2014 (despite an increase in the cost of living of 14%+ over the past eight years)(adwa.ca). The cost of living is certainly going up (dailyhive.com) and the wage of our caregivers should be too. Instead, we are seeing amazing folks who care about their work having to leave our community in pursuit of better paying jobs (globalnews.ca, Alberta Disability Workers Association).

Giving a HUGE shout out to ALL you support workers – without you, our friend Alex couldn’t do all the things that make life FUN! Like Going skiing!

LIVING is important.
We should ALL be able to do it.
