SUMMARY:The Experiential Regulation Tools Lab
DESCRIPTION:The Experiential Regulation Tools Lab\nProgram Overview: Emotional Regulation for Sustainable Employment\nEntering the workforce is a significant transition. For individuals with disabilities\, this transition\noften comes with unique challenges related to sensory processing\, energy management\, and\nanxiety. \nThis workshop goes beyond standard “stress management.” It is an experiential\, trauma-\ninformed lab designed to equip participants with a personalized “wellness bag of tricks” to\nnavigate workplace stressors\, stay regulated during interviews\, and maintain sustainable\nemployment. \nWhy This Matters for Your Audience\nMany individuals with disabilities entering the workforce face unique barriers that standard\ntraining overlooks\, including:\n• Heightened workplace and interview anxiety.\n• Sensory overwhelm in new environments.\n• Emotional regulation challenges under pressure.\n• Fatigue and neurodivergent energy fluctuations. \n\nCore Objectives \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n• Understand the basic physiology of how stress impacts their specific nervous system.• Learn accessible\, practical tools for real-time emotional regulation. \n• Develop personal strategies for calming themselves in professional settings (e.g.\, before \nan interview or during a stressful shift). \n• Build confidence in their ability to manage workplace stressors. \n• Leave with tangible\, self-created self-care tools. \nMethodology: The Experiential Regulation Tools Lab \nCrucially\, the facilitation format is highly adaptive. We ensure participants with different \nlearning styles\, neurodivergences\, and physical limitations are guided in a unique manner that \nhonors their individual experiential journey. \nThe workshop rotates through these accessible practices: \n1. Breathwork for Regulation (The Foundation) \nWe move beyond generic breathing exercises. This is a simplified\, somatic-based class focused \non body awareness and using the breath as a tool for calm when in distress. \n• Adaptability: Techniques are tailored to the clients present. \n• Examples include: Diaphragmatic Breathing (Belly Breathing)\, Conscious Continual \nFlow (for centered focus)\, and Sound Breathing (using silent vibration to regulate the \nvagus nerve). \n2. Sensory Regulation & Essential Oils Lab \nBuilding on the success of the wellness lab delivered previously at Gateway HQ\, this session \nexplores the connection between scent and emotion. \n• Activity: Emotional mapping—identifying what emotions different scents evoke. \n• Tangible Takeaway: Participants create a personalized “Mind Calm Roller” using high- \nquality\, natural\, hypoallergenic plant essences (essential oils). \n3. Body Mapping & Stress Awareness \nThis guided segment uses light movement designed for all bodies (inclusive of wheelchair users \nand those with visual or physical impairments) to build somatic awareness. \n• Activity: Participants use a simple body-outline sketch to visually map where stress \nshows up for them personally\, followed by a guided body scan for deeper emotional \nregulation awareness. \n4. Gentle Movement & Seated Yoga \nAccessible movement designed for the workplace environment. \n• Focus: Chair-based options\, micro-break exercises\, and 5-minute reset techniques to \nmanage energy during the workday. \n5. Closing Circle & Integration \nA crucial component for solidifying learning. We discuss practical application: “What will you use this week?” and create a follow-up plan. \nConnect with us to register at Get-Work@GatewayAssociation.ca
