SUMMARY:MentorAbility Industry Information Session: Running as a Candidate in the Federal Elections
DESCRIPTION:MentorAbility Industry Information Session: Running as a Candidate in the Federal Elections\nEver wondered what it takes to run as a candidate in the Canadian Federal Elections? ️ Join us for an exciting Industry Information Session featuring Elections Canada\, where you’ll get the insider scoop on navigating the campaign trail\, from nominations to election day! Whether you’re curious about candidacy or simply passionate about the democratic process\, this is your chance to learn and get inspired. \nYou are officially invited to the Elections Canada session happening on the 19th of February from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. The goal of this session is to overview the programs and tools in place to reduce barriers to running in a general federal election for people with disabilities. By the end of this session\, we hope you will feel confident in taking your first steps to exercise your democratic right to run as a candidate. \nElections Canada’s mission is to ensure that Canadians can exercise their democratic rights to vote and be a candidate. Research shows that some electors\, including youth\, new Canadians\, electors with disabilities and Indigenous electors\, face barriers to participating in elections. These barriers can include not knowing the ways to register and vote\, or how to work at an election or run as a candidate. Through the Inspire Democracy program\, Elections Canada works with a network of partner organizations to share key information and hold workshops for people who face barriers to participating in elections. \nThis event is offered to all MentorAbility participants – so if you are a job seeker who experiences disability-related barriers to employment or a supportive employment service provider who wants to learn more about the industry\, this event is for you! \nIf we can offer any accommodations during the event to make your participation easier or answer any questions you have about the event ahead of time\, please contact jamie@gatewayassociation.ca after you register to discuss. \nThis event will be recorded. \nRegister HERE
