Hi, I’m Ko Luu
Workplace Inclusion Strategist
I know the job market can feel intimidating, especially when someone has been overlooked, underestimated, or made to feel that their differences are barriers. What I want everyone who walks through Gateway’s doors to know is this: I do not see a file, a label, or a box to check. I see a person with a story, strengths, and possibilities and I see Business Partners with open arms to inviting new team members.
Before joining Gateway, my career path took some meaningful turns. I began in the Financial Services sector as a Financial Advisor, then moved into community work with Calgary-based non-profit Momentum, where I facilitated workshops on Money Management and Financial Empowerment.
That work deepened my understanding of how practical, respectful support can help people move forward. I later spent nearly a decade as a Buddhist monk in the forest hermitages of Sri Lanka — a period shaped by silence, deep listening, and being present with others.
Although these experiences may seem very different, they taught me the same lesson: real connection begins when we drop our assumptions and truly listen.
Today, that insight guides my work as a Workplace Inclusion Strategist. I support job seekers in discovering roles that align with their strengths and goals, and I also proactively reach out to businesses across Calgary and surrounding towns to explore how we can collaborate in creating diversity and expanding workplace culture. I care deeply about helping people feel seen, understood, and supported as they move toward meaningful employment. My approach is person-centred, strengths-based, and grounded in patience, curiosity, and respect.
Outside of Gateway, I continue this commitment through volunteering as a Friendly Visitor with Calgary Seniors and with Jewish Family Service Calgary’s (JFSC) Memory Care program, offering companionship and one-on-one support to community members and their caregivers.
Outside of work, I recharge through quiet walks, time in gardens, and staying curious about health and wellness. These pauses help me stay grounded and present in my work with others.
