Employer Spotlight: Fit Kids

Since 2023, Susan To, owner of FitKids, has partnered with Gateway Association to create meaningful employment opportunities for our participants. 

Susan understands that individuals living with developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, or mental health concerns often face unnecessary barriers during traditional hiring processes. Instead of focusing on what might hold someone back, she focuses on what they can do. 

During interviews and hiring, Susan simplified the process and centered conversations around skills, strengths, and abilities, allowing her to identify the right accommodations to support each employee’s success. 

Even more impactful is her commitment to ongoing growth. Susan actively supports her employees’ professional development — including helping participants work toward childcare certification and build long-term careers in the field. 

This is what inclusive employment looks like: thoughtful hiring, meaningful accommodations, and real opportunities to grow.
