MentorAbility Experience Story: Janelle and Patricia

When MentorAbility Alberta first approached Patricia Boa of Weekly Trim True with a mentorship ask, the response was almost instantaneous. Patricia wanted to know how she could best provide a comprehensive learning experience to the mentee in a way that would be useful and wouldn’t overwhelm.

Janelle, the mentee, was looking to re-enter the working world with newfound skills and connections. She was eager to complete her apprenticeship hair stylist hours while focusing on her passion for colour. The nurturing environment of Weekly Trim True was a perfect match for what Janelle was looking for.

Janelle was in school when she was diagnosed with her disability and needed to take some time off for health and family. Now looking to re-join the workforce, she faces a question that many people who experience disability have: can I find an employer who will be compassionate and understanding, with a nurturing and supportive team, where I will have the support I need to be successful?

During her match with Weekly Trim True’s Whyte Avenue location, Janelle found herself embraced by a community-minded collective of individuals who were eager to share their knowledge and expertise while encouraging growth and opportunity, proving that what she was looking for can be found. Janelle wasted no time immersing herself in the salon environment, spending time with various stylists and lending a helping hand when needed.
