Families Forward, Under 18
Tuesday, October 10
7:00pm – 9:00pm | Online
Monthly meeting for families with children under 18 with disabilities.
Where families can connect with other families, learn from one another, and explore issues that are important (such as schooling, leadership, and community and government support).
October Topic:
ACT seeks to help individuals to struggle less with difficult things in their lives and mindfully connect with things that are most important in a way that is loving and respectful. With an introduction to the concept of mindfulness, ACT does not attempt to directly change or stop unwanted thoughts or feelings, but to develop a new mindful relationship with those experiences that can free a person up to being open, and to take action consistent with what they care about. Join us for this brief introduction to the concepts of ACT and how they can help a caregiver care for their self.
About the Presenter:
Teunisje is a Registered Occupational Therapist and a Canadian Certified Counsellor. She has over 30 years of experience working with children, teens, and adults with disabilities and their families. She was trained in facilitating ACT workshops for caregivers of people with developmental disabilities by a group of clinicians and researchers from CAMH. Her most valuable experience is parenting an autistic daughter. She has found ACT concepts and tools invaluable in managing her own stress and self-care.
Facilitators: Yonique at Yonique@GatewayAssociation.ca and Stacy at Stacy@GatewayAssociation.ca
