Meet Nick

Nick started services with Gateway Calgary’s Employment Program in May of 2022.

Nick already had temporary part time employment as a Barista with Lil’E’s Coffee Shop, but wanted assistance in preparing for the next step in working towards his dream of becoming a chef!

Nick already had many skills that he transferable skills from his experience at Lil’E’s, such as providing great customer service, supporting his teammates, being reliable and dependable as well as best practices for working with food.

But, Nick felt that he needed some assistance with updating his resume, finding direction in job search, preparing for interviews and connecting with an employer where he could work could receive mentorship and experience relevant to one day becoming a chef. 

With the assistance of Gateway, Nick was connected with Jubilations Dinner Theatre and was given the opportunity to interview in November of 2022. After some interview preparation and pre-interview support from Gateway staff, Nick impressed his interviewers and was offered a position as a Kitchen Staff member shortly after.

Nick started in his new role in December of 2022, and being one of the busiest times of the year, Nick “hit the ground running” and has been receiving great feedback for his ability to handle the busy environment!

Nick’s supervisor shared that the team “loves his work ethic, he always shows up early for work and is doing a great job!” This position is exactly what Nick was looking for, and is in a great place to learn many of skills and build up his knowledge to become a chef!
